Principal's Welcome
Welcome to Centennial Elementary
Dear members of our Centennial family,
Welcome to the Centennial Elementary School community! Here are a few updates and resources to help you prepare for the upcoming school year.
Connect & Assess
We will host “Connect & Assess” sessions before the school year starts for students and families to meet teachers, pick up supplies, fill out paperwork and take some short assessments. On Monday, August 19, you will receive a message through ParentSquare with your child’s teacher and class and how to sign up for a Connect & Assess conference.
Health & Safety
At Centennial, it is a priority to provide a safe, enjoyable learning environment for all students and staff. We have a Health Office for students who are not feeling well or need basic first aid. The Health Tech calls parents to report health issues.
As you may remember, the City of Richfield has worked closely with Centennial to provide safe streets and walking paths for our students. We ask that all families follow the procedures, including the lower speeding limit of 25 mph to ensure that all Centennial kids are safe walking to and from their buses or cars.
Academics & Student Support
We provide core classes for all students (reading, math, writing, science and social studies) as well as physical education, music, art and media. We also offer academic support in reading and math, and we have a Talent Development (Gifted and Talented) program in place for students who benefit from additional academic challenges.
Our staff has continued to receive training in Conscious Discipline. All students, staff and visitors are expected to follow the three school-wide expectations: We are kind, we are responsible, we are safe. There are Safe Spaces in every classroom, and we have many incentives and initiatives to support and motivate students to do their best.
We also support the social and emotional needs of our students through Morning Meetings and lessons in classrooms. We have a full-time School Social Worker, a Student Engagement Specialist and two Outreach Workers on our team to support students and families (find their contact information here). On-site counseling services are also available for students.
School & District Resources
Ready to learn more? Explore our school website to learn more about back to school, our curriculum, handbook and our school calendar. On the District website, you can find information on COVID-19, our new Equity Policy, the Strategic Plan, technology resources, school lunch and transportation information.
What’s Next?
Be sure to check the Richfield Public School District website, follow the link for Centennial Elementary, and stay up to date on Centennial announcements and events. If your contact information has changed since last year, please be sure to update it in ParentVUE or contact our office—we don’t want you to miss any important information!
Remember to watch for the message from school on August 19 and sign up for a Connect & Assess conference.
School starts on September 4! This year, we are going to focus on students getting to school on time. When students are tardy for school, they miss important time with their class. Please support our efforts and get your kids to the bus stop or the school on time.
- 7:50-8:05 a.m. Students arrive by bus, car, bikes, or walking
- 8:10 a.m. School begins
- 2:40 p.m. School ends
I want to again welcome you to Centennial Elementary! We are committed to providing a warm, welcoming community with the very best learning opportunities each and every day. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school office or me at any time.
See you soon!
Ms. Colleen Mahoney, Principal
